How to care for Zamioculcas zamiifolia (ZZ plant)

 Commonly known as zz or zanzibar gem. This is by far the best air purifying plant for home and office this plant purifies indoor air, absorbs humidity, prevents mold built up especially during monsoon season. It can very well withstand low light and is absolutely low maintenance.

Main Feature :

  • The striking feature of zz plant is their shiny, oval and thick leaves which are available in 2 colours.
  • Zz plant with green leaves are well known as Green ZZ
  • ZZ plant with black coloured leaves are known as Raven 


    How To Care For ZZ plant?

  • Light: Medium to low light, grows well in medium light, under low light the growth is little slow
  • Location: Can be kept outdoor as well as Indoors



When kept Outdoor:

  • Potting Medium: Soil or Potting mix both can be used, preferably potting mix as it is better than the soil
  • Watering: Once in a week depending on the weather conditions, soil medium dries up faster so you may want to water it onceProp in 3 days
  • Fertilizer: Give it a break, else use organic fertilizers like seaweed fertilizer or cow dung fertilizer or vermicompost
  • Pruning: Not required


When kept Indoor:

  • Potting Medium: Instead of Soil use Potting
  • Watering: Once in 15 days depending on the weather conditions
  • Fertilizer: Give it a break, else use organic fertilizers like seaweed fertilizer or cow dung fertilizer or vermicompost
  • Pruning: Not required



Propagation:

  • Take a clean blade or pruning material
  • Cut the base of the leaf
  • Let the leaves callus for a day



Water Propagation
  • place the cutting in a glass of water (Do not submerge it completely)
  • Keep it in indirect light



Potting mix medium
  • Place the cuttings in the potting mix (50% cocopeat & 50% Compost)
  • Keep it in indirect light



Pest / Insects: They generally are free from pest and insects so no worries here
